4 Surprising Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

Before I begin, let’s talk about what people know about Apple Cider Vinegar. (Crickets chirping). Conversation over!

Most people know little to nothing about Apple Cider Vinegar because if they did know, they would be taking a shot of it every day! Apple Cider Vinegar boosts immunity, gives you radiant skin, makes you feel full faster, so you indulge less all the while lowering your blood sugar levels. I will only be talking about these four benefits as they are my favorites, but there are many other reasons that Apple Cider Vinegar is a miracle elixir.

A note before starting: ACV is highly acidic and may upset your stomach. Some people prefer to dilute it with some water. Experiment and find the perfect taste ratio for you.

1. Immunity Booster

Apple cider vinegar (also know as ACV for short), has the ability to break down mucus that builds up in your body. Not only will having less phlegm help with your immunity but if you are sick, less phlegm build-up can be a huge relief. If you are sick, take a shot of ACV. If you’re not sick, still take a shot daily anyway. Why? Keeping your body at its optimum capacity is preventative.

2. Radiant Skin

When you’re pregnant, people say you have a glow about you, and it’s nice to hear. Why not hear it when you’re not pregnant too! I’ve experimented with a lot of different face concoctions, and I really enjoy this recipe:

1 part ACV
1 whole egg
1 part used coffee grounds

The protein in the egg helps tighten the skin, while the coffee grounds exfoliate, and quite frankly, may even give you a minor tan. The ACV adds a glow- like appearance to your skin as it pulls out the dirt in your face and helps eliminate pimples. I heard this when I was younger, and I didn’t believe it. I tried it, and it’s true! Though, it works for me, let me just say that everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products. So, try the above exfoliant in a small batch first. I have very little oil on my face and tend to break out mostly when it’s hot. If this sounds like you as well, I highly recommend giving it a try.

3. Feel Full Longer

Another awesome benefit to ACV is that it helps you to feel full faster. The acidity makes you second guess eating more and that satiety is just what the doctor ordered when it comes to a happy and fit body.  Food is intended to fuel your body, not to load it down like a garbage truck. Thus, being satisfied earlier on in your meal is not only good for you but makes you feel good as well.

4. Lowers Blood Sugar

The acidity in ACV, again, digests the foods you eat differently so instead of absorbing all the carbs from your meal, it converts some of the carbs into your body for other uses. In laymen’s terms, carbs are good but like everything, they are best in moderation. In an effort to change the digestive process, the abundant carbs you may be consuming are converted into useful processes in our digestion instead.

According to diabetesjournal.org, in a study they did on the effects of ACV on insulin, “vinegar’s acetic acid suppresses disaccharides activity thus acting [naturally in the same way as] metformin”.  I am not a doctor, and I am not saying this should be your care treatment.  Please consult with a medical professional before making changes to your diet.

Conclusion
